Let it Rain
🌧️ For Weeks, I Prayed for Rain
For weeks, I found myself looking up at the sky, asking for rain.
In Florida, that’s unusual.
The ground was dry. The air still. Something felt off.
Then came the alert—an evacuation warning.
I opened the map.
Fires.
Across North Florida—even in protected wildlife areas.
And suddenly, this wasn’t just dryness.
It was damage. I could see the smoke creating brown clouds in the sky and the burnt smog lingering in the air all day.
🔥 The First Reaction
I felt angry.
At the carelessness.
At the patterns we already know—
waste, overuse, neglect.
We take more than we restore…
and then we wonder why nature responds.
🌿 A Deeper Realization
But as I sat with it, something shifted.
What if this isn’t just about the environment?
What if it reflects something deeper—
how we see ourselves?
đź‘‘ A Familiar Pattern
Around the same time, I had been watching the House of David.
It’s a powerful interpretation of the life of David—Israel’s second king.
And one thing stood out to me.
Being chosen… didn’t bring immediate peace.
It brought tension.
Doubt from others.
Suspicion.
Even danger.
Because growth—especially visible growth—
often unsettles people.
It can stir jealousy.
It can provoke resistance.
And sometimes, the very moment someone begins to rise
is the moment others begin to question their worth.
đź’§ Self-Value
And over time, that has an effect.
When a person is worn down
by doubt, by criticism, by being overlooked—
the mind begins to follow that pattern.
Doubt becomes familiar.
It can override intuition…
even override what is plainly true.
So that even when everything points toward value,
a person may still struggle to believe they have any.
And they cannot dance with joie de vivre because an oppressed life lacks joy.
🌸 What We Nurture
This is why nurturing matters.
Not only in how we care for ourselves and how we care for the environment— but in how we respond to others.
Because when we help someone rebuild their self-belief,
we are restoring something that was quietly eroded (Phil 4:8; 1 Cor 3:16,17) – doubt, fears and even stigma.
And from that place, things begin to change.
A person who sees their value
moves differently.
Chooses differently.
Cares—more deeply.
For themselves.
For others.
For the world around them.
🌍 Care That Extends Beyond Us
And here’s where it all connects:
Taking care of yourself isn’t isolated.
It ripples outward.
When you value yourself,
you begin to value:
your environment
your choices
your impact
your future
And ultimately—
the next generation.
Because the world we shape today
is the world they will inherit tomorrow.
🌧️ Closing Thought
Perhaps the question is not only:
“When will it rain?”
But also:
“What are we nurturing—within ourselves and around us?”
Because over time, what we reinforce—
doubt or value—begins to grow.
In us.
In others.
In the world we shape.
Because what we nurture…
is what will grow.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
When the sun is high above me
And the earth is cracked beneath
I can feel the weight upon me
Drawing out what’s deep in me
With no shelter from the burning
Just a whisper in the breeze
“Follow where the flock is moving…”
Something calling me to peace
[Chorus]
Let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain
Bringing rivers of peace, let it rain
[Verse 2]
If my heart has been forgotten
If my strength has fallen low
Can I rise and move in freedom
Can I learn to let it flow
If I’ve wandered through the silence
Holding what I can’t release
Is there healing in the movement
Is there dancing into peace
[Chorus]
Let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain
Bringing rivers of peace, let it rain
[Verse 3]
When I listen to the rhythm
Of the ground beneath my feet
There’s a pattern in the breaking
There’s a promise in the heat
If I tend to what is living
If I honor what I’m given
Then the desert starts to soften
And the dry begins to glisten
[Chorus]
Let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain
Bringing rivers of peace, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain
Bringing rivers of peace, let it rain
Let it rain
