Clear Up the Way
Clear Up the Way song is inspired by Isa 40:3.
When Isaiah wrote:
“Clear up the way of Jehovah! Make a straight highway through the desert for our God.” — Isaiah 40:3
he was comforting people who would one day be living far from their homeland in Babylon. They would feel abandoned and without direction. God promised He would bring them back — and He described it as a road being prepared across a desert.
In ancient times, before a king traveled, workers went ahead of him. They removed stones, leveled rough ground, and straightened the path so nothing would block his arrival. Isaiah used that familiar picture to teach something comforting:
God would remove the barriers preventing His people from returning to Him.
But the prophecy carries a deeper meaning than a physical journey. The greatest obstacles are not mountains or distance — they are in the human heart and mind.
False ideas about God, discouragement, fear, and harmful influences can block a person from recognizing truth. So “clear up the way” is really an invitation to prepare ourselves inwardly — to make room for truth instead of confusion.
Jesus later taught the same lesson using a different illustration. In the parable of the sower, seed falls on rocky ground where it cannot take root. The problem is not the seed — the seed is good. The problem is the soil is unprepared.
God’s message is like that seed.
If the heart is crowded with misleading beliefs, pride, anxieties, or constant distractions, the message never grows. But when those obstacles are removed, understanding develops naturally and faith becomes stable.
So preparing the way means more than learning new information. It means softening the heart, examining what we accept as truth, and allowing God’s teaching to take root.
The prophecy therefore answers an important question:
Does God want people to search blindly for Him?
No.
He takes the initiative. He provides the message. He opens the path. Our part is simply to clear the obstacles that prevent us from accepting it.
Lyrics
Clear up the way
Raise your voice with power
Make a straight highway
Through the desert for our God
People bring good news
From the mountain of Zion
Raise your voices loud
You dont have to be afraid
Clear up the way
To the promised land
Call the people near
For there’s hope from God’s own hand
Hear the kingdoms good news
Salvation is near
There’s hope for all
You dont have to live in fear
There ain’t no wild beasts
On the road to Zion
No wolves nor foxes
Where the meek walk on
No claws to wound you
No teeth to tear
Only peace will follow
All who travel there
Clear up the way
Raise your voice with power
Make a straight highway
Through the desert for our God
People bring good news
From the mountain of Zion
Raise your voices loud
You dont have to be afraid
