House Update
I thought it was time for a gentle update.
The insurance process is still ongoing. Anyone who has ever dealt with claims paperwork will understand — it moves slowly, and mostly consists of phone calls, documents, waiting… and then more waiting. Nothing dramatic, just steady progress one step at a time.
In the middle of all that, the house itself has taken on a very different kind of life.
The interior is still a barebones structure right now, but my two cats have decided this is clearly the best thing that has ever happened to them. What looks like an unfinished space to a human apparently looks like a multi-level adventure park to a cat. They run the beams, climb the framing, and treat the place like a jungle gym.
They are healthy, happy, and completely unconcerned about insurance timelines — which is probably a good lesson in itself.
The Campervan Lesson
I also learned something important about Florida sun.
One afternoon, staying inside the campervan while it was parked beside the house in full sunlight – the temperature climbed far higher than I realized, and I ended up with heat sickness. That was my clear signal: adjustments were needed.
So we moved it.
Now the van sits under a tree, level instead of tilted, and everything changed. The refrigerator suddenly works properly (it turns out camper fridges really care about level ground), and the shade keeps the temperature comfortable all day.
But the biggest change wasn’t technical.
Before, everything felt tense — like living at a constant “alert level,” always watching the next problem. Now, sitting in the shade, looking out at greenery and leaves moving in the breeze, the atmosphere is completely different.
Instead of pressure, there is quiet.
Instead of urgency, there is rest.
It’s strange how a small shift in location can also shift your mind. The situation hasn’t magically resolved yet — the claims process still continues — but internally it feels calmer. Not finished… just peaceful for now.
And honestly, that feels like progress too.
