Regular Pioneering
In my twenties, I had several jobs in Diss, but none of them ever truly felt like the right fit. My mum worked for a medical drug studies analysis company, and through her, I landed a job interview. Before long, I joined her in the Quality Control Department.
While there, I digitized the company’s paper-based archive system, turning it into an extensive Excel database. The organization and efficiency I brought to the system led to me being assigned my own little archive room, where I managed the logging and shipping of data to the company’s off-site facility. I also learned how to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conducted training sessions on my process.
The rest of my time was spent on quality control. At one point, it was determined that our small team—just four of us—had a 0.01% error rate for checking other people’s error rates. Go figure!
With a steady income from my part-time job, I was finally able to reach a long-held goal: pioneering. I started with auxiliary pioneering, and within a few months, transitioned to regular pioneering. I even found a pioneer partner, and we shared fuel costs when making return visits.
Life was golden. I can honestly say those were some of the happiest days of my life!
