Jehovah’s Witnesses

A witness of Jehovah (which is God’s name – see Psa 83:18) is someone who has been baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. And in doing so makes a dedication to not only obey the instruction in God’s written word (the Bible) but to witness/preach to others about Him just as Jesus witnessed to all those in Jerusalem, Judea, Galilee and Samaria – teaching them about God.
In fact, it was Jesus who commanded his followers to: Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you (Matt 28:19,20).
As followers of Christ teachings, Jehovah’s Witnesses identify themselves as Christians.

Jehovah’s Witnesses Political Views

Jehovah’s Witnesses remain STRICTLY NEUTRAL when it comes to world politics.  They do not vote, nor incite others to pick any political side.  This is in harmony with Jesus’ words in John 18:36 where he said: “My Kingdom is no part of this world… my Kingdom is not from this source.”  As advocates of God’s kingdom which many pray for in the ‘Our Father’ prayer of Matt 6:9,10 JW’s DO NOT get involved in politics!

A Global Brotherhood

Jehovah’s Witnesses are a global community – a family. As such, we affectionately refer towards each other as brother so-and-so or sister so-and-so or simply ‘the friends.’  See Matt 12:48-50.

How to Identify Real Christians?

Bethel, which literally means ‘House of God’ in Hebrew, is the name of our headquarters. Each branch around the world helps coordinate the organized work of preaching, teaching, and literature distribution. Our global headquarters is located in New York, USA. Learn more here.

Worship

Worship consists of:
1. Praise – singing praises and preaching
2. Study – privately studying and meditating on God’s word, the bible.
3. Association – regularly meeting together to study God’s word and sing praises
4. Prayer – drawing close to God in prayer (communication with God).

How Can Worship Please God?

Door to Door/Preaching Work

There are many aspects of the preaching work. The one you may be the most familiar with is probably door knocking. However, we can be found wherever there are people. We love to talk to everyone, not just about our beliefs but we are interested in people in general and also comforting them with a good hope for the future when they feel down.

Auxiliary Pioneering

A commitment to make a certain monthly hour requirement preaching to other people. The ‘auxiliary’ monthly hour requirement is less than that for regular pioneering and is often used as a goal or a stepping stone to regular pioneering.

Regular Pioneering

Study of the Bible

Why study the bible? The bible is God’s word. God created all things, including humans and like a loving parent has penned much advice on how we can be successful in life.  He shared His advice in his written word – the bible. God is so powerful that he knows exactly what happens in our future, therefore the bible is a book of prophecy too and in its pages He gives a good hope for the future (Jer 29:11). Yes, man may have written the books of the bible – but it was God who inspired those written words (2 Tim 3:16,17). Therefore, we can say that the bible was written by God.

What are Some Questions that the Bible Answers?

Can You Trust the Bible?

The Bible is God’s Message to Us

In my opinion, the best translation of the bible is the New World translation of the Holy Scriptures.  You can access an online version here.  You can also see all other translations of bible scriptures here by changing the drop down menu at the top of the page.

What happens when people study the bible?

The bible is such a powerful book that it has the power to positively transform people’s attitudes, values, goals and their hope for the future. By coming to know God through his inspired word, the bible – they can benefit from the ‘peace of God’ that brings comfort – Phil 4:7.

Congregation Meetings

The first century Christians knew that it was important for brothers and sisters to meet together to encourage one another and keep up to date with learning about the truths contained in God’s word. Heb 10:24,25 says: consider one another so as to incite to love and fine works, not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another… Jehovah’s Witnesses (who emulate the first century Christians) regularly meet each week in their local kingdom hall.

All are welcome to attend!  To find the address of your local Kingdom Hall please do a google search for “kingdom hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses near me.”  Then, if you show up on a Sunday morning at 9:50 a.m. you will be able to enjoy good association and find your seat in time for the meeting which begins at 10 a.m.  Smart dress – no collections taken.

What happens at our Congregation Meetings?

There are two meetings a week – 1) The weekly ministry meeting and 2) the Sunday talk followed by a study of the Watchtower. Before and after each meeting we happily greet all who attend and enjoy good conversation with them.

What Happens at our Meetings?

How the Congregation is Organized?

Weekly Ministry Meeting

This meeting is divided into two halves.

  • The first part of the meeting begins with a song of praise and a prayer. Then, there is a training school to help our friends become better in the preaching work (ministry).
  • After another song, we have a short talk or two followed by a study of a book of the bible. At the moment, we are studying the book – Acts of the Apostles. The meeting concludes with a song of praise and prayer.

Sunday Talk followed by a study of the Watchtower

This meeting is divided into two halves.

  • The first part of the meeting begins with a song of praise and a prayer. Then a brother will give an interesting bible-based 30 minute talk.
  • After another song, we do a question and answer study from our monthly magazine of the Watchtower (which can be on any bible topic). The meeting concludes with a song of praise and prayer.

What else do JW’s do?

We love helping people – so we get involved in charity work too. For instance, when natural disasters strike, our global family takes care of each other – offering needed resources such as: water, food, encouragement, cleaning up and rebuilding homes too. We help others in the nearby community who may have been affected by the disaster as well.
